Bulimia Nervosa Treatment Program for Teens
Bulimia Nervosa is a serious eating disorder marked by cycles of binge eating followed by purging behaviors, such as vomiting, excessive exercise, or laxative use. For teens, this cycle can feel overwhelming, isolating, and impossible to stop without support.
At Silver State Adolescent Treatment, we provide teens with the structure, compassion, and clinical care they need to break this harmful pattern and begin a path to recovery. Our residential program offers 24/7 supervision, therapeutic meal support, and individualized treatment plans designed to treat both the eating disorder and its emotional roots.
We don’t shame teens for their struggles—we support them with the tools and guidance they need to heal, grow, and rebuild a healthier relationship with food and their bodies.

What is Bulimia Nervosa?
Bulimia Nervosa involves episodes of uncontrollable eating, followed by attempts to “undo” the behavior through purging. Teens with bulimia often feel trapped in cycles of guilt, secrecy, and self-criticism. They may appear to maintain a normal weight, making the disorder harder to detect than anorexia.
Underlying this condition is often deep emotional pain, anxiety, or perfectionism. Bulimia can severely impact physical health, leading to issues like dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and damage to the heart, esophagus, and digestive system.
Our team understands that bulimia is not about vanity—it’s about emotional overwhelm. We help teens find their voice, address the underlying pain, and learn healthier ways to cope and connect.
Signs and Symptoms of Bulimia Nervosa in Teens
Bulimia can be difficult to detect, especially if a teen is hiding their behaviors. Signs to look for include:
Frequent trips to the bathroom after meals
Evidence of purging (vomiting, laxatives, etc.)
Binge eating episodes or missing large amounts of food
Excessive concern with weight or body shape
Swollen cheeks or jaw
Eroded teeth or sore throat
Isolation, anxiety, or mood swings
Secretive behavior around food or eating
If you suspect your teen is struggling with bulimia, early intervention is critical. Our residential program offers the safe, therapeutic space they need to begin recovery.

Why Individualized Plans Matter for Teens with Bulimia
Each teen experiences bulimia differently, and no single approach works for everyone. That’s why our treatment begins with a full clinical, psychological, and nutritional assessment to understand each teen’s unique needs.
From there, we create a tailored plan that may include:
Individual therapy
Family therapy and education
Nutritional support and supervised meals
Medical care and monitoring
Emotion regulation skills
Body image therapy
Trauma processing (when applicable)
We also provide aftercare planning and relapse prevention to ensure long-term recovery support for both teens and their families.
